Both comments are true....
Sarawakian income is not the same as West Malaysian. West Malaysians income rate there is higher than of Sarawak and Sabah. You have to reconsider the rate.

You can look into a smaller one in Miri. There will be many clients from Brunei, I dare bet you.

But we are not doing Brunei clients only Miri has many PLUs also....next to Kuching.

I wish you all the best.....

I had filled up your survey.

The Sweat Spa said...

Hello there.

Yes, the rates are very important. In view of the facilities to be offered, RM20 is a very good rate. Membership is only RM10, and it's forever - one time payment only. Our overheards are pretty high too - air-cond, steam and sauna, internet, astro, and complimentary drinks, to name a few. We could drop to RM15, or even less, but it means we have to remove astro, internet and air-conditioning in some areas. Ultimately, if you pay RM5 more, you get so much more facilities and comfort.

Tourists and out-of-towners pay RM25.

Nice addition to Kuching. I believe this will be the first of its kind in Kuching rite?? Nice work.

I like the whole idea and concept. It's about time something like this crops up in Kuching. However, I am a wee bit uncomfortable with the open shower concept but i might well be the minority here. Personally, i would prefer it if you have a frosted glass divider but I guess this would amount to additional cost. Anyway, good luck in your business and i hope it will be a roaring success! Cheers!

am afraid with all the raids on the same establishment in Penang & KL....how can u guys assure there is no such harrasment to come to customers going there?

The Sweat Spa said...

West Malaysia and East Malaysia are essentially two different countries with different sets of administrative rules when it comes to local council and policing. In Kuching alone, we have three different councils - MBKS, DBKU and Padawan. All three, as we know, have various policies. The police in Kuching are also very different from West Malaysia. It's about WHO you know and HOW MUCH you pay to WHOM that really matters. In Kuching, everyone is business minded :)

The Sweat Spa said...

Customer care is NUMBER ONE on our minds. If our clients are scared to come, our business is in jeopardy. That is why the FIRST step taken by us is to get the relevant licences and "green light" from the relevant authorities. The spa will operate under a general business licence managing a gym with a supporting licence to operate a health spa. All very transparent and in accordance with local authority rules.

rockyside said...

I would love to try out your place. So you are expected to be operational by second quarter of this year. Location unknown yet? That's three months from now and you haven't decide the location yet?

The Sweat Spa said...

We have decided. We just haven't published it yet for security reasons. Once we are operational, the location will be made known and address published here at this blog.

rockyside said...

That's great to hear :) I can't wait to step into your spa and give it a try :) finally, one in kuching

rockyside said...

I notice you lowered the fee to RM 15. Do you have a membership system?

The Sweat Spa said...

The directors have decided that a membership system would be redundant for a venue such as ours in a city such as Kuching which does not boast the kind of population which creates the required criticial mass for our kind of business to be successful, as compared to other much larger cities like Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Bangkok. Also, the difference of RM5 can be a major deciding factor for frequency of visits for many clients.

You've probably noticed that we're being as cerebral as possible about this venture. We want to do it properly, not just as a profitable business venture, but to also offer the local market a first-class and value-added alternative venue and outlet.

Anonymous said...

How much is the life time membership now and member per entry fees? I am confused. Why suddenly become RM 15.00 per entry? Please clarify.

No more open shower facilities?

The Sweat Spa said...

Hi. We have decided to scrap membership. No membership required. Now, everybody enters by just paying RM15 per entry. Students who can show a valid student card get a discount of RM5, meaning they pay only RM10. These prices will be valid for at least the first six months of operations, like a promotion period. After that, we will see how the response is, and what the client feels is reasonably fair. We will conduct a survey of client needs when SWEAT opens so as to improve our services.

We will have three types of showers.

(i) Open shower stalls for those who are not shy (to fit minimum 3 persons).

(ii) Partitioned shower stalls with frosted glass for those who want some privacy (3 stalls).

(iii) And brick partitioned shower stalls for those who want complete privacy (3 stalls).

hi just want to clarify with u ... u mention RM 15 per entry ... what if we go out for a while to get dinner or supper & then come back, would u require us to pay again?? Would be a good idea to see how many visitors u have b4 u impose per entry rate ... how about daily rate?

The Sweat Spa said...

RM15 is daily rate. This means if you wish to go out for a drink or a meal and come back later, you may. We will provide a daily pass for those who want to leave the premises for a short while so that they may return without having to pay again.

You may also order meals from the nearby coffeeshops and take your meals in the lounge area. We will provide this service.

We want to be client friendly and offer value-added service.

rockyside said...

Just to clarify.. why is the operation hour 4pm-12 midnite? Why not make it 12pm-12am? Just a suggestion

The Sweat Spa said...

Hi Wolfbane.

I like you already! Thanks for being an excellent prospective client who keeps us on our toes.

1. We try to operate an 8 hour work day for three reasons: (i) sauna and steam machines' can only take so much per day (ii) by law, we cannot overwork our staff, unless we do shifts, which we are currently considering, and (iii) operational costs.

2. We are not confident that the gym would be fully utilised in the earlier part of the day as most male adults are at work. It would be more cost-efficient to operate during hours when we are confident clients would patronise the venue. However, at the weekends we plan to open at 2pm, which is two hours earlier than the weekday operating hours, and maybe extend till 2am, if the request from clients is overwhelming.

Nevertheless, nothing is set in stone until we actually open in April, and have a more reliable gauge of client needs.

rockyside said...

That's great to hear. Hope your place would be up and ready for operation in beginning of April. :)

The SPA's location @ Chonglin Park is quite good n strategic area but u need to place it maybe a bit far from crowds. Coz, as u know we as PLU want more privacy from outsiders... Plus, maybe certain of us are discreet ones. So, considering of placing the SPA @ not many people pass by area is better.. Don't u think?

The Sweat Spa said...

Hi Wolfsbane,

After further discussion with our interior designer, we have been advised that a more realistic opening date for the gym will be in May, as the Chinese New Year season will extend right into March - contractors can only begin work in early March after Chap Goh Meh. This pushes our deadline back by a few weeks.

Hi Axis,

We are located at the last row of shophouses at the back of Chonglin Park. Front entrance of our gym will be facing Imperial City and ThienJing at the side. Back entrance of the gym will lead to the secluded carpark at the back. If you park your car at the back, no one can see you enter and exit the gym's back entrance. We hope this would suit some of our clientele's need for discretion and privacy.

rockyside said...

Hi there. Glad to hear that as by then, i would be back in the country again. My suggestion is that you could offer some value added advantages / benefits for frequent visitors. For example, have a system where you hand out cards to the patrons. If they frequent your outlet for more than 10 times ( example ), then get 1 session free. That would encourage more return of patrons and chances of increase in new patrons when news go around. A good idea would also to make sure that the workers are clean looking and dont look like some thugs or loan shark's errand boys from the street which is noticeable in some similar businesses in KL . Just my two cents worth.

The Sweat Spa said...

Hi Wolfsbane,

Again, a very excellent suggestion! Yes, we will implement the frequent visitor bonus.

We are currently open for job interviews for the following vacancies:

1. Accounts clerk (part-time only)
2. Cleaner (full-time)
3. Cleaner (part-time)
4. Counter Boy (full-time)
5. Counter Boy (part-time)
6. Fitness instructor (part-time only)

Applicants must be Malaysian, male, and preferably good looking.

rockyside said...

:) Glad to hear that... As for the job openings, i have no chance at all .. haha

Azizan said...

Good to hear all the feedbacks are taken care into and great to hear it is soon going to open. I will certainly give it a try. Though I dont like the place to be so-called PLU place for fitness, I prefer that you market it as a place for guys, no matter what sex are you intrested in. Im a stright man, and Im not shy to be among gay guys, don't get me wrong. Im not so-called homophobic. Im okey as long as my hands and your hands are at the right place. Im just concerned that the community will turn their heads away frm your place or negatively think about it if ever they find out that the place is mostly crowded with gay guys. Like what the public though of Jalan Haji Taha right now. Just my 2cents.

The Sweat Spa said...

Dear Azizan

We provide a clean, hygienic, discreet and safe gym and sauna for guys. Customer service and satisfaction is our prime concern. We will strive to give the best service to our clientele and ensure their safety, comfort and satisfaction.

Public perception is beyond our control. We cannot shut people's mouths or force people to come. Some people just won't come, despite public perception, while others will come inspite of public perception. The market is filled with all types of people with all types of issues and baggages. Some who are conservative just won't patronsie a gym, no matter what. That's their right. Others who are more adventurous don't care what others think and will just enjoy the facilities provided. We therefore cater to those who have no problems or shyness with going to a gym and sauna for guys. Free market.

so how big is the place gonna be? How many shop-lots would u utilize? How many floors?
How big would the gym area be? I hope it's gonna have proper gym equipments and not some home use machines. that could attract some quality clientele for eye candy ;)
